Helpful Hints >

Because looks do mean everything. Tips to properly care for your furniture.

Panel or Seating Fabric
  • Panel fabrics can be cleaned with shampoo, foam or dry cleaning solvents.
  • Remove as much soil as possible by carefully vacuuming, brushing, or scraping with a dull instrument.
  • Follow manufacturers directions for type of stain, water borne or oil borne.
  • Do not saturate with liquid.
  • Pile fabrics may require brushing to restore appearance.

Leather and Vinyl Upholstery
  • Remove as much soil or staining materials as possible by carefully vacuuming, brushing, or scraping with a dull instrument.
  • Use lukewarm water and mild soap to remove most soil and stains.
  • Work up a thin lather on clean, damp piece of soft fabric and rub gently over soiled area.
  • Wipe off the soap with a fresh cloth, followed by a soft, dry cloth.
  • Never use furniture polishes, oils, solvents, varnishes, abrasive cleaners, or ammonia on leather or vinyl.
  • Mineral spirits may be used with caution to remove chewing gum, grease, or other greasy soils and stains that cannot be removed with soap and water.

Laminate Tops and Plastics
  • Wiping with a damp cloth will remove general soiling and water-borne stains.
  • Use a hard surface all-purpose cleaner, if needed.
  • Some oil-borne stains may require the use of a dry-cleaning fluid.
  • Fill in scratches in wood-grained laminate by using a wood putty stick available at hardware stores.

General Wood Maintenance and Protection
  • Use desk pads and coasters to help protect the finish against dents, scratches, moisture and hot and cold liquids.
  • Do not use desk pads that have a plastic backing.
  • Use felt or leather pads on the bottoms of office equipment and accessories.
  • To avoid acratches, lift objects when you move them instead of pushing or pulling across surfaces.
  • Periodically move desk accessories and other objects kept on the work surface to ensure even aging.
  • Avoid leaving vinyl binders on the work surface for long periods of time.
  • If using a protective glass top, insert pads between the glass and work surface to create an airspace to allow the wood to breathe.
  • To avoid fading, try to keep wood away from direct sunlight.
  • Avoid extreme temperatures and humidity.
  • Immediately wipe up any spills with a soft, dry cloth.

Metal Finishes
  • Clean metal finishes with a non-abrasive cleaner.
  • Apply cleaner sparingly, making sure that it does not come into contact with wood.
  • Wipe the hardware dry with a clean, soft cloth.
